Verdict
Tobalá is the agave most often undersold by its producer – distributed bottles routinely land in the low 40s, where the liquid loses its aromatic backbone. Leyendas has not made that mistake. At 48.7% this Oaxacan tobalá reads clean and floral in the way potatorum should, without the thin citrus quality that plagues lesser examples. Real Minero still sets the ceiling; this is a credible pour on the way up the ladder.
A tobalá that doesn't apologize for its proof
Tasting notes
Nose: Honey, then wet stone, green melon, wildflower
Palate: Bright, mineral, cleanly potatorum – the Oaxaca expression of tobalá in its familiar key. The 48.7% keeps the structure lifted, which is what separates a real tobalá from a decorative one
Finish: Long, dry, faintly herbal
The bottom line
The tobalá does what tobalá should. Buy with confidence
