Verdict
The Puebla entry in the Leyendas series sits in the competent-but-uninspiring zone, the mezcalero is credited, the proof is honest, the agave carries as agave. Real Minero's Puebla work sets a ceiling this bottle doesn't reach, but at its price the Puebla bottling is a reasonable introduction to potatorum from outside Oaxaca. A credible pour that won't displace the bottle you already trust.
Serviceable Puebla tobalá – not the revelation the region can produce
Tasting notes
Nose: Green apple – then caramel, citrus peel, wet stone
Palate: Cleaner than the Oaxaca bottling, with the potatorum's orchard-fruit character intact and the 48% doing the work the 42% couldn't. Aarón Alva Sánchez has a light hand
Finish: Slightly bitter, clean – medium
The bottom line
Fine. Buy Real Minero if the budget allows
