Verdict
The rare añejo where the oak actually helps – not because the base is strong but because the base needed the help. Los Amantes' bottle design has always run ahead of its liquid; here the extended aging does the work the 40% joven couldn't. A gift bottle that won't embarrass whoever receives it, which is the ceiling for an Amantes. 4.1 consensus grades the bottle; we grade the base.
The best Los Amantes, by a margin. Still not essential
Tasting notes
Nose: Oak, then vanilla, dried fruit, faint smoke
Palate: The longer aging gives the Amantes base a texture it lacked in joven. 40% is still the ceiling
Finish: Long, oaky, warm
