Verdict

Los Nahuales' joven ships at two different proofs depending on the market – the 47% is a credible mid-shelf espadín and the 42% is a well-made but flatter version of it. The house's production discipline is visible in both; the shelf economics, regrettably, are not identical. Check the label. At 47% it's a genuine competitor to the Fidencio and Del Maguey Chichicapa work for the same dollar.

A bottle with a ceiling that depends on which label you grabbed

Tasting notes

Nose: Cooked agave, soft smoke, warm cane, a light citrus thread

Palate: At 42% the bottle reads cooperatively mid-weight; at 47% it finds its shoulders. Both versions are competent; the 47% is the one to buy when available

Finish: Clean, lightly sweet

The bottom line

The 47%. The 42% is the lesser bottle of the same name
