Los Javis Reposado
A reposado can't rescue an underproofed base
Score: 2.5/5 agaves

- Region: Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin
- ABV: 40%

Verdict
Reposado espadín at 40% is the category's most unforgiving format; the wood eats what little structure the base has. Los Javis' version is evidence. The joven sibling at least left the agave visible; the reposado erases it. At this price and proof, Los Cuerudos' reposado is doing markedly more with the same format. Skip.
Wood on a thin spirit doesn't add – it covers
Tasting notes
Nose: Light oak, cooked agave, faint vanilla, cane sugar
Palate: 40% is the ABV that makes this bottle structurally impossible, the barrel flattens what the base can't support. Thin, lightly sweet, forgettable
Finish: Oak-tinged, fades fast. Short
The bottom line
Wood on thin mezcal is a mistake. Pass
