Verdict
Los Vecinos Del Campo's espadín is the kind of competent middle-shelf pour that fills a slot rather than owning one. The 45% proof is a point in its favor and the production is clean, but the bottle doesn't separate itself from the dozens of similar jovens at similar prices. Banhez still wins on character at the same money; this is the shelf alternative.
Average espadín, proofed on target
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave up front. Cane sugar, light smoke, orange peel underneath
Palate: 45% is the proof the tier is supposed to deliver and the bottle meets it – clean, mid-weight, cooperative. Nothing is going wrong; nothing is going distinctively right either
Finish: Clean, lightly sweet – medium
The bottom line
Average in a category where average is enough
