Machetazo Cupreata
A papalote that plays it safe
Score: 3.0/5 agaves

- Agave: Cupreata
- ABV: 40%
- Price: $50 ($)
Verdict
Machetazo is Mayalén priced into wider distribution, and the compression shows. Papalote (cupreata by another name) at 40% is a different animal than Mayalén Guerrero at 54% – less structure, less persistence, less of the Guerrero that makes the house flagship matter. Skip in favor of the main Mayalén bottles if you can stretch the budget.
Mayalén's B-line – drink the A-line
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herbs up front. Crushed pine needle, faint citrus zest underneath
Palate: The dual ABV release (40% or 45%) tells you everything – the 45% version earns the price; the 40% doesn't. Either way the Machetazo line is a simpler read than Mayalén's flagship
Finish: Herbal, mild. Medium
The bottom line
A pass for Mayalén Guerrero. Same producer, different ambition
