Verdict
Machetazo's salmiana is a credible mid-shelf introduction to SLP – the agave's distinctive vegetal character is legibly there at 45%, and the production is clean. The proof leaves runway on the table that Navarro's Luneta work claims. Think of it as the accessible tier of what Derrumbes and Luneta do at reference level. Buy as an SLP introduction.
SLP salmiana as an accessible first step
Tasting notes
Nose: Green pepper – then corn silk, warm mineral, a flint edge
Palate: At 45% the salmiana's vegetal-stone signature is cleanly present, though we'd want the bottle at 47-48% to fully reach the SLP register Navarro's Luneta work achieves. Machetazo has proofed this carefully
Finish: Medium-long, peppery, clean
The bottom line
A serviceable SLP introduction. Commit to Luneta when ready
