Verdict
Miguel Ortiz Villagomez runs several Michoacán bottles in the Melate catalog and this one is the peak, commit. At 53% through a Filipino still the alto reads concentrated and complete, nothing wasted. Closer to what Mal Bien pulls off in Michoacán than most releases from the state. Grab it when you find it; Michoacán is chronically underpoured.
Michoacán alto at 53% – the proof the agave asked for
Tasting notes
Nose: Wild honey with pine, dried orange
Palate: Filipino-still inaequidens at 53% – Miguel Ortiz Villagomez lets the Michoacán alto's mountain character build without apologizing. The proof is earned: the agave has the body to carry it
Finish: Warming, resinous, very long
The bottom line
Peak Michoacán alto. Buy without hesitation
