Verdict
Honor Jaime Morales Aquino by name. Mango chaparro is an agave that most producers won't work with because the category is smaller than the effort – Jaime does, and the bottle rewards it. Commit: the clay-pot patience, the 46% restraint, and the rare agave combine into something genuinely unusual. Closer to what Cuentacuentos accomplishes with its rarest single-agave releases.
Mango chaparro – an agave that deserves its own vocabulary
Tasting notes
Nose: Wild honey, green banana, wet bark, warm stone
Palate: Clay-pot, Jaime Morales Aquino distills mango chaparro with patience the agave rewards. The wild Oaxacan's tropical-mineral signature reads unlike anything else on the Melate shelf
Finish: Softly tropical, iron-tinged. Very long
The bottom line
A rare-agave sleeper. Take it when you see it
