Verdict
Fortunato Hernández runs softer than Berta Vasquez's mexicano in the same catalog, pour both side by side for the contrast between Chichicapam densities. Reach for either; they're different registers of the same agave. Closer to what Nuestra Soledad achieves with its quieter mexicano releases. A reliable name in the Melate catalog.
Mexicano at 45% – the quiet version, still articulate
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave walks in first. Then warm stone, floral top, faint smoke
Palate: Copper. At 45%, Fortunato Hernández distills mexicano with a softness that doesn't shade into blandness. The rhodacantha's round, floral body reads clearly; the finish is where the proof catches
Finish: Floral, warming, long
The bottom line
The quieter Melate mexicano. Track the name
