Verdict
Gregorio 'Don Goyo' Martínez García is capable of memorable bottles, and this tepextate is a solid but unremarkable entry in his catalog. At 48.9% it clears the tepextate-undersell threshold cleanly; it just doesn't reach the altitude of Reina Sánchez's or Hermógenes Vásquez's tepextate releases in the same Maguey Melate program. Drink it, then hunt those.
A by-the-book tepextate from a maestro who usually goes past the book
Tasting notes
Nose: White flower. Then green pepper, ripe melon, light mineral
Palate: 48.9% gives this tepextate the lift it needs, but the florals read a little soft compared to the best marmorata in circulation – clean mid-palate, pleasant weight, predictable shape
Finish: Dry, floral tail
The bottom line
A fine tepextate. Others from the same program go further
