Verdict
Hermógenes Vásquez is a name that shows up in Real Minero and Lalocura conversations for a reason, and this Maguey Melate bottle is the one we'd hand a drinker asking for a reference tepextate. 45.5% is the minimum we ask of marmorata and he clears it without asking for more, the bottle is balanced, complete, and unambiguously one of the strongest tepextates in the club program.
This is what tepextate tastes like when no one gets in the way
Tasting notes
Nose: Intense white flower, then green pepper, wet limestone, ripe cantaloupe, a resinous top
Palate: At 45.5% the florals drive hard but never get shrill, the mineral spine is unmistakable San Luis Amatlán, the mid-palate is dense with fruit and stone in equal measure, the tepextate character is maximally legible
Finish: Dry, stony-floral. Very long
The bottom line
Worth taking. This is reference tepextate
