Verdict
Rosario Ángeles Vásquez's tobaziche-madrecuishe from Santa Catarina Minas is the rare karwinskii ensamble that clears the madrecuishe proof ceiling (48% is where madrecuishe usually starts to feel flat) and lets both agaves drive. The two bottles sit next to each other on the palate like siblings, not twins. Buy it and learn the karwinskii family from the inside.
The karwinskii ensamble as education, not spectacle
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet herb, then green pepper, cool mineral, quiet clay, light citrus
Palate: 48.8% of clay-pot tobaziche-madrecuishe blend, the tobaziche's bitterness meets the madrecuishe's drier, starchier body and the two build a chalky density you don't get from either alone
Finish: Dry, layered. Very long
The bottom line
A karwinskii ensamble with actual purpose
