Verdict
Mal Bien's coyote is one of the few shots US drinkers get at this agave at all, and the bottling is the clearest argument yet for the Mal Bien thesis that rare plant plus single maestro plus honest proof beats any amount of marketing. Real Minero and Lalocura work this register; few others touch it. Buy it when you see it; the next coyote on the shelf may be a year away. Consensus 4.5 is earned.
The Mal Bien wild-agave rule: if you see one, buy it
Tasting notes
Nose: Lavender, hot stone, dark fruit, a faint tobacco note, violet underneath
Palate: Dense and complex at 49.94% – coyota's rare character rendered with every flavor on purpose. The lavender-leather register the variety is known for develops across the palate without the commercial flattening that often afflicts rare-agave releases
Finish: Endless. Floral, mineral, warm, with a slow leather fade
The bottom line
A rarity bottle at top-tier quality
