Verdict
Tobalá is the agave drinkers splurge on expecting something memorable, and this Mal de Amor release at 45% delivers something forgettable. The bottle isn't broken – it's just polite in a category where politeness is a disqualification. Pass. Banhez Tobalá at this price does more; Mal Bien Ramos at 49% does much more.
A tobalá that forgot to show up
Tasting notes
Nose: Soft honey, then faint floral, quiet mineral
Palate: 45% of copper tobalá that never pushes past pleasant – the potatorum reads cleanly but understated, the mid-palate doesn't develop
Finish: Short-to-medium, soft, fades
The bottom line
Pass. Tobalá without the volume
