Marqués Plata
Guanajuato destilado that tastes like its marketing brief

- Region: Guanajuato
- Agave: Salmiana
- ABV: 40%
- Price: $43 ($)
Verdict
Marqués Plata is the sort of destilado that exists because somebody built a distillery in Guanajuato and then asked their agency what it should taste like. The answer was evidently nothing in particular. Pass, for the same money, Banhez's ensamble gives you a point of view.
Engineered smoothness reads as absence every time
Tasting notes
Nose: Faint smoke, commercial vanilla, something vaguely citric and manufactured
Palate: Thin-bodied, sweetened into agreeableness, the agave character sanded off in favor of smoothness the category doesn't need
Finish: Sugary, forgettable, short
The bottom line
Skip. The shelf under $40 has far better arguments
