Verdict
Tepextate is the wild agave that rewards both the grower's patience and the drinker's attention, and Felipe Hernandez delivers both in this bottle. At 46.6% the proof is on the edge of the category's comfort zone, but the concentration in the liquid carries the weight, this drinks cleaner and brighter than many 50%+ tepextates. A reference for the agave.
Tepextate under 48% usually undersells itself. This one doesn't
Tasting notes
Nose: Wild herb, white pepper, ripe melon
Palate: 46.6% with tepextate's signature floral, high-toned brightness, delicate but not thin, the agave's decades in the ground showing as concentration rather than volume
Finish: Herbal, persistent. Very long
The bottom line
Worth the chase. A benchmark tepextate
