Verdict
Metiche Joven is a commercial-spec version of a genuinely interesting regional agave, and the commercial spec loses. The same producer's Metiche 49 is the bottle to buy – same grower, same valley, nearly double the presence on the palate. Skip the joven; climb the ladder.
Northern agaves need proof. This one starved
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry herb, green grass, faint smoke
Palate: 40% doesn't buy you enough of the salmiana's signature dryness and herbal spine – the liquid reads thin and unfinished
Finish: Short, clean, forgettable
The bottom line
Skip. Buy the Metiche 49 instead
