Verdict

Mezcalero No. 28 is a solid karwinskii-driven ensamble from Valente Angel García – not the top of the category of No. 22 (his solo bicuishe) or No. 26 (his arroqueño), but a credible entry in the same catalog. Reach for it as an affordable rotation of the maestro's work; climb for his single-agave bottles when ready.

Valente García on karwinskii ensambles is reliably good, occasionally great

Tasting notes

Nose: Wet herb, white pepper, ripe pear, dry grass

Palate: 47% with bicuishe, madrecuishe, mexicano, and espadín in conversation – the palette is familiar from earlier Mezcalero releases, and it lands just a half-step behind No. 11

Finish: Mineral, herbal – long

The bottom line

Pour it. Track No. 22 and No. 26 first
