Verdict
Mezcalero No. 3 is the Mezcalero line at its most approachable, just two agaves, one maestro, a clean presentation. Valente Angel García's early entry in the series holds up as a solid introduction to single-lot Oaxaca work without requiring the commitment of the rarer wild-agave bottles. Pour it as a way into the catalog.
A two-agave ensamble is the format that lets both agaves be heard
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, then wildflower, a thread of smoke
Palate: 47% with mexicano providing the aromatic lift and espadín carrying the weight, a cleaner, simpler ensamble than the later Mezcalero releases, and a legible one
Finish: Clean, gently floral. Long
The bottom line
Pour it. An approachable entry to the Mezcalero line
