Mezcalero No. 9

Three-maestro arroqueño at a variable spec – the weak Mezcalero

Score: 3.0/5 agaves

Verdict

Mezcalero No. 9 is the rare release in the series that reads as a composite rather than a single coherent vision, three maestros and a variable ABV band muddle what should be a clear arroqueño statement. Mezcalero No. 26 covers the same agave with far more conviction. Skip unless completing the set.

Arroqueño from three maestros at variable proof reads like committee wild

Tasting notes

Nose: Roasted squash, light smoke, sweet cooked agave

Palate: The 46-49% ABV range and the three-maestro attribution both signal dilution of the format's usual focus, the arroqueño reads cleanly but doesn't fully land

Finish: Sweet, mildly smoky

The bottom line

Pass for Mezcalero No. 26 on the same agave
