Verdict
Mezcalero Special Bottling No. 3 is a credible tobalá in the series, though it lands a half-step behind Mezcalero No. 25 (Cirilo and Cosme Hernandez on the same agave). Rodolfo Juan Juarez is a reliable maestro whose signature here is a slightly leaner, brighter tobalá profile. Track when available, the Special Bottling line is generally worth the hunt.
A second-tier Mezcalero special is still a first-tier pour most places
Tasting notes
Nose: Honey, green melon, wildflower, mineral dust
Palate: 48.5% with tobalá's round tropical profile held together by a clean limestone spine, less weighty than the best solo tobalás in the series but bright and precise
Finish: Floral, limestone, long
The bottom line
Pour it. Climb to Mezcalero No. 25 or Memorable for tobalá ceiling
