Verdict
The consensus at 4.6 is right. Margarito Cortés makes a madrecuishe that has no apologies in it – the 53.39% proof, the clay-still weight, and the finish length all match. This is a reference bottling: madrecuishe at full volume is a different agave than madrecuishe at mid-tier proof, and Mezcalosfera's single-maestro releases are where the difference is consistently audible. One of the category's reference karwinskii bottles.
High-proof wild-agave mezcal is the category at its most honest
Tasting notes
Nose: Dark honey, hot slate, black pepper, wet moss
Palate: Massively textured – the madrecuishe signature at production weight. The high proof hits as density
Finish: Drying, cooling
The bottom line
Top-tier madrecuishe. Pay the price if you see it
