Verdict
Garrotudo is among the less-seen karwinskii cultivars on US shelves, and the Mezcasiarca clay-pot treatment doubles the specificity, a rare agave in a rare technique. This is the sort of bottle that justifies building a Mezcasiarca shelf alongside the Mezcalosfera catalog. Hunt when found.
Garrotudo is a karwinskii cultivar most drinkers will never see on a label
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry grass, wet clay, green apple, mineral dust
Palate: ~50% with garrotudo (another unusual karwinskii cultivar) showing a slightly heavier, more resinous profile than bicuishe, given geological weight by the clay-pot technique
Finish: Dry, earthen, long
The bottom line
Track it down. Rare agave, rare technique
