Verdict
If you know Michoacán only through cupreata, Jorge Pérez's Alto is the next chapter. Inaequidens grows at elevation and drinks like it, stern, resinous, more minerally stern than floral. Mezonte's bottling respects the producer and prints batch detail on the label. For a 47% small-release Michoacán, this is closer to Real Minero territory than to anything on a restaurant list.
Jorge Pérez's Alto is Michoacán's answer to the madrecuishe crowd
Tasting notes
Nose: Wild mint, warm stone, tamarind, a resinous pine undernote
Palate: Inaequidens at 47% is dense and herbal, the high-altitude Michoacán signature, bitter greens and mineral salt carrying a lot of structure
Finish: Drying, herbal-slate-tinged
The bottom line
Worth owning to understand why Michoacán matters
