Verdict

Cirial is usually a supporting player in karwinskii ensambles; Nacional 1937 treats it as the lead, and the bottle rewards the decision. Celso Martínez López's hand is in the proof and the clarity, and 48.5% lets the agave's herbal spine show without smoothing it. Buy it for karwinskii varietal focus; pour it next to a NETA bicuishe if you want to hear how much the town changes. A studious bottle, not a party one.

Cirial solo is a rare bottle, and Celso Martínez López shows why more producers should try

Tasting notes

Nose: Dry grass, then lime peel, wet stone, white pepper

Palate: Single-agave cirial at 48.5% is a lean, herbal, mineral reading, karwinskii's cousin-to-madrecuishe register, less sweet, more spine

Finish: Dry, slightly bitter

The bottom line

Buy for karwinskii study
