Verdict

The refrescador still is a rare format NETA documents well, and Ranulfo García Pacheco's madrecuishe-espadín is one of the catalog's best expressions of it – cleaner mid-palate, tighter finish, a crystalline quality you don't get from copper alone. Two reviewers at 4.8; we shade a half-step down only because we want more batches on record. A technique-and-agave lesson in one bottle.

Refrescador distillation is a technique choice. Ranulfo's version proves why

Tasting notes

Nose: Wet stone with cool citrus, a soft herbal lift

Palate: Refrescador distillation (water-cooled condenser) gives the mezcal a cooler, cleaner profile – at 47% the madrecuishe spine and espadín sweetness both read in high definition

Finish: Very long, mineral, crystalline

The bottom line

A buy. Refrescador canon
