Oaxaca Club Espadin
A duty-free bottle in spirit if not in shelving
Score: 2.0/5 agaves

- Maestro: Valeriano Monterroza
- Region: Mitla, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin
- ABV: 41%
- Price: $55 ($)
Verdict
Oaxaca Club isn't trying to compete with the producers who have actually earned the state's name. It's a brand built around a name-check, and the liquid obliges the strategy, pleasant, unchallenging, completely anonymous. Skip toward Del Maguey Vida for honest rail espadín, or toward Banhez for actual flavor at the same price.
A bottle that exists for the shelf, not for the glass
Tasting notes
Nose: Faint smoke, vanilla, a trace of rubbing alcohol
Palate: Thin at 41%, sweetened-reading, with the Matatlán character smoothed into anonymity
Finish: Sugary, clean. Short
The bottom line
A skip. Vida and Banhez exist
