Verdict
Taking an already under-proofed joven and putting it in a barrel is the kind of product decision that spreadsheets love and drinkers don't. The result is a bottle that's neither a credible sipping mezcal nor an interesting cocktail base – just smooth liquid with a wood note. Pass for almost anything else in the tier, including the brand's own joven.
Reposado mezcal at 37% is an apology in glass form
Tasting notes
Nose: Oak, then vanilla, a faint citrus, barely any smoke
Palate: At 37% with barrel time, the ensamble reads as a lightly-flavored agave water. Any tobalá character has been polished off
Finish: Sweet, wooden – short
The bottom line
Pass. Even within Ojo de Tigre, the joven does more
