Verdict

Arroqueño is difficult to mess up because the agave does so much of the work, which makes it more noticeable when a bottle falls short. Origen Raíz's version plays like agave that wasn't given the time or the care, then got pushed to proof to compensate. Skip toward Real Minero, Lalocura, or even the Oax Original arroqueño above it in this batch.

Good arroqueño tastes patient. This one tastes rushed

Tasting notes

Nose: Dark fruit, then cocoa, burnt sugar, something slightly acetone

Palate: The density arroqueño should deliver never arrives. The proof is there but the extract isn't, a bottle that tastes younger than its raw material

Finish: Warm, a touch hot

The bottom line

Skip. Real Minero arroqueño is the reference point and it isn't far away on price
