Verdict
San Juan del Rio mezcal tends to carry a minerality that Matatlán espadín doesn't, and Isaias Martinez leans into it here. Pescador de Sueños treats the entry bottle with the same respect as the rarities, which is unusual – most brands save the care for the halo SKU. At 50% this would embarrass a lot of bottles selling for double. Put it next to Vida and Vida looks like a different product category.
Commodity espadín cannot do what a proper palenque espadín does at 50%
Tasting notes
Nose: Roasted agave with a thin curl of lemon zest
Palate: Broad and savory, 50% giving it weight without heat. Cooked-plant sweetness sits behind a dry mineral spine. Farm-grown agave reads as slightly rounder than wild versions
Finish: Medium-long, herbal, clean
The bottom line
A working sipping espadín done right. Buy when you see it
