Verdict
Tobalá is mezcal's sweet spot for marketing, small plant, high proof per ton, easy story to tell. The hard part is making a tobalá that drinks like more than perfume. Pescador's lands cleanly on the side of presence. We'd put it next to Banhez Tobalá for value and next to Real Minero's tobalá for seriousness – this bottle holds its own in the middle.
A tobalá that doesn't mistake prettiness for presence
Tasting notes
Nose: White flowers, orange peel, cooked agave honey, a thread of smoke
Palate: Round but not soft, the 50% proof gives the potatorum its backbone. Floral intensity folds into a cooked-sugar core. The Pescador house style (mineral, patient) runs underneath
Finish: Long, floral-to-stone, clean
The bottom line
A tobalá with backbone. Buy when you find it
