Verdict

Por Lo Bueno's tobalá is the entry-proof version of the plant done with appropriate care. The floral signature is present, the balance is clean, and the 46% choice (while not ambitious) doesn't actively undermine the agave. Fair for a first tobalá. Reach for Pluma Negra's 52% or Banhez Tobalá for the upgrade path.

Tobalá's forgiveness of lower proof is why brands start there

Tasting notes

Nose: Orange blossom – then honey, a wisp of wood smoke

Palate: Floral-forward, clean, mid-weight. Tobalá handles 46% better than tepextate does, the plant's compactness lets it read fully even at lower proofs. Por Lo Bueno's restraint serves the tobalá where it hurts the tepextate

Finish: Floral, clean. Medium

The bottom line

Buy it as a first tobalá. Upgrade later
