Verdict
Puntagave's rustico mezcal is the brand's honest center, it admits it's a working espadín and executes at working-espadín level. Fine for mixing or casual sipping. Skip if Banhez, Nuestra Soledad, or a proper 47%+ espadín is on the same shelf. Fair for what it is.
A truthful mid-bottle from a brand that otherwise oversells
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, a flat smoke, green stem
Palate: Slightly more structure than the artisanal line, but 44% is still below the sipping-espadín threshold. The rustico posture matches the liquid better than the artisanal label did. Drinkable, not memorable
Finish: Short-to-medium, warm, fading
The bottom line
Not worth the spend. Banhez is cheaper and better
