Verdict
Puntiagudo's whole premise is presenting the same agave through different maestros' hands, and the barril pair (Ortiz and Angeles) is the catalog's clearest demonstration. Angeles' version runs cooler and more mineral; Ortiz's runs drier and more austere. Buy both if you care about the argument. Standalone, this one edges ahead for the mineral signature. We'd rank it against Cuentacuentos' rare-karwinskii work.
Two maestros, one plant, two readings. This is the point of Puntiagudo
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet stone, green fig
Palate: Rounder than the Ortiz barril, though similarly structured. Rolando Angeles pulls a shade more mineral cool and a touch more fruit from the same plant. 49.9% proof carries the difference clearly
Finish: Iron-tinged, cool. Stays long
The bottom line
Buy it. The maestro comparison is the whole plot
