Verdict
Cuishe is mezcal's middle karwinskii, neither as popular as tobalá nor as rare as cirial, and Rolando Angeles' version is among the most convincing US-market bottlings of the plant. Puntiagudo's curation gives him a clean platform. We'd put it next to Real Minero's cuishe and call it a two-horse race. Buy it.
When a maestro has worked a plant for thirty years, the bottle sounds like it
Tasting notes
Nose: Apple skin with green herb, a thin cinnamon
Palate: Mineral-forward, slightly oily, cool from front to back. 48.9% proof is exactly where cuishe opens. Rolando Angeles treats the plant like a producer who's been working it for decades – because he has
Finish: Stone, apple – very long
The bottom line
Worth taking. One of the better cuishes available
