Verdict

Two-maguey ensambles within the karwinskii family are uncommon because producers usually pair karwinskii with something outside the family for contrast. Rolando Angeles does the inside-the-family version, and the result is a master class in how closely-related magueys differ. Track it next to Real Minero's karwinskii-on-karwinskii ensamble work.

Tasting notes

Nose: Cedar with dry fig, a thin menthol

Palate: Dense, dry, structural. Two karwinskii plants in the same glass, tobaziche's cedar and marteño's mineral cool – and at 48.4% both stay audible. Rolando Angeles composes the karwinskii family like he's known it personally for decades

Finish: Stone, cool. Very long

The bottom line

Worth owning. Karwinskii obsessives will see the point
