Verdict
Quiquiriqui has two espadíns on the US market, the Matatlán (low-proof, design-forward) and the San Juan del Río (proper-proof, region-forward). The San Juan del Río is the one that justifies the brand. Fair buy if the price is friendly. We'd put it alongside Pescador de Sueños' San Juan del Río espadín for regional comparison – Pescador wins, but this is a real attempt.
San Juan del Río proves Quiquiriqui can when it chooses to
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, fresh smoke, a mineral cool
Palate: Better structured than the Matatlán – San Juan del Río's regional character (more river rock, drier) shows up. 48% is the threshold where espadín becomes serious, and this bottle sits right on it. Cleanest Quiquiriqui work
Finish: Clean, herbal, medium
The bottom line
Worth owning over the Matatlán. Skip the Matatlán
