Verdict
Cupreata (papalote) from Guerrero is one of the US market's most underrated agaves. Rayo Seco's cupreata at 48.5% is a fair example of the plant's green-mineral signature. Track it next to Dixeebe's papalote work and Mal Bien's Guerrero releases, all three are serious. Buy it for the regional lesson.
Cupreata is Guerrero's answer; Rayo Seco translates it
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet stone, then cooked apple, green herb, a thin smoke
Palate: Mid-bodied, mineral-forward, distinctively papalote. Cupreata (papalote) is Guerrero's signature agave and drinks differently than Oaxacan espadín, greener, stonier. 48.5% proof carries it. Rayo Seco lets the plant read
Finish: Stone, clean
The bottom line
Worth owning. Guerrero cupreata is a category you should know
