Verdict
A special selection for The Austin Shaker and Alamo City Liquor, which means Texas drinkers caught the break. Edgar Ángeles lets the barril and madrecuishe argue politely, same family, different angles – and the bottle lands somewhere between Lalocura's madrecuishe work and what Rey Campero used to do with cuishe before the brand expanded.
Two karwinskii speaking to each other without an interpreter
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet stone, celery root, white pepper, a distant mineral smoke
Palate: Lean and structured at 51.26%, the madrecuishe's upright vegetal spine meeting barril's earthier frame. Clay-pot texture all the way through. 51% is the proof this pairing wants, below 48% madrecuishe goes flat
Finish: Dry, saline. Stays long
The bottom line
Hunt it down in Texas, worth the drive
