Verdict

Durango cenizo at 41.5% is the ceiling where cenizo stops reading as cenizo. Amaras Logia Durango proves the agave at higher proof, and Derrumbes Durango does similar. Reyes y Cobardes bought the right sourcing and then bottled it at a proof built for retail price points rather than the agave.

The agave has something to say. The bottle doesn't let it

Tasting notes

Nose: Creamy agave walks in first. Then citrus, a cheesy edge, faint smoke

Palate: Thin, the characteristic Durango cenizo funk present but the proof doesn't let it develop. Jorge García's work is visible; the commercial ABV strangles it

Finish: Funky, slightly off

The bottom line

A pass. Amaras Logia Durango is the Durango cenizo to drink
