Verdict
Simeón and Apolonio's barril-tepextate-espadín is the three-agave Rezpiral bottle that outperforms their arroqueño-espadín-tobasiche ensamble, the tepextate is doing real aromatic work, and the barril's earthiness anchors it. 48% is the right floor. Pick it over most Rey Campero ensambles at the same price.
The Ramírez brothers' better ensamble
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet stone, then orchid, cooked agave, green pepper
Palate: Layered, tepextate's floral doing the aromatic work over barril's earthy base, espadín mid-palate glue. 48% is tepextate's proof floor; it clears
Finish: Floral, mineral
The bottom line
Buy it, the Ramírez ensamble to drink
