Verdict
Leonardo Hernández and Aureliano Hernández Martínez both make lumbre in San Baltazar Guélavila, and putting the two bottles side by side is the Rezpiral thesis in action. Leonardo's runs softer and slightly rounder; Aureliano's runs sharper and drier. Both are legitimate; they're different because the maestros are. Buy them together; the comparison is the point.
Same agave, same town – different bottle
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herb, wet earth, cooked agave, wildflower
Palate: Leonardo Hernández's lumbre running slightly softer than Aureliano's, same agave, different palenque, different bottle. Legible throughout; medium-weight at 46%
Finish: Herbal, mineral. Long
The bottom line
Buy alongside Aureliano's lumbre, the pairing is the study
