Verdict
Mexicanito is a smaller sub-variety of mexicano, and Abel Martínez's version at 48% shows the agave's more angular, less-plush profile clearly. Santo Domingo Albarradas terroir sharpens everything by a degree. A legitimate curiosity for drinkers mapping the mexicano family; not a bottle to argue Rezpiral is the line, but a fine member of it.
Mexicanito is mexicano's younger, quicker cousin
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herb, wet stone, cooked agave, faint pepper
Palate: Clean and medium-weight at 48%, mexicanito reading as a slimmer, brighter version of mexicano – Santo Domingo Albarradas terroir keeps it lean
Finish: Mineral, dry. Long
The bottom line
The pick for the family-tree study
