Verdict
Tequilana grown outside Jalisco and distilled artisanally is still a rare bottle. Reyna Sánchez in San Luis Amatlán shows what the agave does when a mezcalero treats it like any other maguey, not a commodity input for a column still. The result is pointed, herbal, and more interesting than 90% of the tequila shelf.
This is what tequilana tastes like when nobody is in a hurry
Tasting notes
Nose: Pine sap up front. Dried desert flowers, sweet herbs, a pickled vegetable edge underneath
Palate: Cleaner and brighter than any tequila you've had – 48.2% gives tequilana agave the structure the Jalisco industry abandoned decades ago. Dried lavender on the mid-palate, saline finish
Finish: Mineral, faintly floral
The bottom line
Buy it for the tequila drinker in your life who thinks they know the plant
