Verdict

Sacrificio's añejo is the Total Wine Spirits Direct playbook applied to the aged mezcal category – barrel-forward, agave-optional, price-shelf-determined. The wood is doing concealment, not conversation. Any Salvadores or Sacacuento añejo will give you a more honest version of the form at similar money.

A mezcal añejo designed around an idea of mezcal, not the experience of one

Tasting notes

Nose: Sweet wood, then vanilla, a muted agave, a syrupy background

Palate: 45% is the least interesting thing about it; the wood overrun and caramelized sweetness read as concession to a rye-curious audience

Finish: Sweet, cloying. Medium

The bottom line

Skip. Any Sacacuento aged expression does the job better
