Verdict
Tepextate is an agave that rewards proof more than almost any other, pushed past 50% it roars; held at 48 it keeps its composure and sometimes its distance. Salvadores's version is composed. Consensus 3.7 is right-sized; we land at 3.0 because the category's best tepextates are sharper. Credible, not commanding.
Tepextate at 48 is tepextate in its minimum-viable form
Tasting notes
Nose: Green pepper, wet stone, cooked herb
Palate: 48% is the floor for tepextate; Flavio Pérez Méndez hits it without going higher, and the agave sits as correct rather than explosive. The marmorata signature is present but reined in
Finish: Green, mineral – long
The bottom line
Fine if you haven't had tepextate before; pass if you have
