Sentir Tobala

A tobalá that does the minimum the agave requires

Score: 3.0/5 agaves

Sentir Tobala bottle
  • Producer: Sentir Mezcal
  • Region: Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca
  • Agave: Tobala
  • ABV: 46%
  • Price: $60 ($$)

Verdict

Sentir's tobalá is correct without being convincing. The aromatics are there, the proof lands to the agave, but the liquid feels like it was made to a spec rather than a vision. Banhez Tobalá costs less and says more. Reach for that first.

Tobalá deserves more conviction than this

Tasting notes

Nose: Honey, wet stone, green melon, a whisper of citrus peel

Palate: 46% is the floor for tobalá and Sentir stays on it – floral sweetness, minerality, a short textural arc that doesn't quite reward the cost of the agave

Finish: Clean, faintly bitter – medium

The bottom line

Competent. Banhez Tobalá is the better value pour
