Verdict
Doba-Yej is Siete Misterios' Vida, the bar workhorse that made the brand's distribution. It's fine as a cocktail base and unremarkable on its own. Variable ABV (44-45%) across batches is the tell that this is a volume bottle rather than a producer statement; consistency would be a floor, not a ceiling. 3.3 consensus reads right. Fine for Mezcal Negronis; the higher-proof espadín in the range is where the producer starts arguing for itself.
Widely available does not mean widely interesting
Tasting notes
Nose: Soft smoke, lemon peel, cooked agave
Palate: Clean and middle-of-the-road, the 44-45% ABV variance across batches means consistency is rough
Finish: Medium, clean, slightly sweet
The bottom line
For the bar well. For the shelf, buy up the range
